The Northeast Brooklyn Housing Development Corporation (NEBHDCo) was incorporated in January 1985 as a 501c3 not-for-profit organization. NEBHDCo’s mission is the preservation, development and management of affordable housing and homeownership opportunities; community and economic development initiatives and human services that affect social change in central Brooklyn.

NEBHDCo Community Programs provides pantry distributions of shelf-stable goods and fresh produce. To provide community services that are free of cost, educational and geared towards the enhancement of the community itself i.e. professional development classes, beautification of the passive garden, dance classes, yoga classes etc. The community programs and initiatives are currently focused on two areas: promoting healthy food and living, and providing tenant and community support.

GOLDEN HARVEST PANTRY

The pantry provides emergency food and benefits support in a state of the art 2-story facility. During-Covid we migrated to a socially-distanced operation making up and handing out a full bag of pantry staples and full bag of fresh produce along with poultry or beef for every visitor. We also have a mobile food pantry program where we deliver both pantry staples and fresh produce to home-bound seniors, disabled, and parolees. 

COMMUNITY KITCHENS

Demonstration kitchen, classroom and cooking demonstrations and culturally relevant nutrition education classes featuring ingredients given out at the pantry. We plan to resume programs for our community members and pantry visitors to learn and teach culinary skills and nutrition basics using ingredients that the pantry frequently distributes. We feature cooking demos and classes in our demonstration kitchen at 376 Throop Ave, which is upstairs from our food pantry operation. We emphasize practical, satisfying, nutrient-dense meals that can be made on a budget.
