Our Kids Read's vision is to support reading and literacy in under-served communities in order to encourage systemic change. 

The Our Kids Read mission is to connect children and communities to diverse books and reading programs in order to foster literacy, achievement and a positive self-view. We conduct a 1:1 remote reading program and donate thousands of books to US schools featuring Latino, African-American, Native-American and Southeast Asian characters to children in grades pre-K through 12th grade.

Our Kids Read has two (2) core programs.  They are:

(1)  Free Book Festivals - OKR partners nationally with local organizations, authors and donors to bring thousands of books to K-5th grade students.   We hire local storytellers and musicians to bring stories from around the world to life, then allow youth participants to pick 2-3 free books from our book tables of hundreds of books and up to 100 unique titles to choose from across all K-5th grade reading levels.

(2) 1:1 Reading Buddy Program - OKR matches adult readers with children in the under-served communities we work with for virtual 1:1 mentoring and reading sessions (over Teams and Zoom).  Each session is 45-minutes, once or twice per week, for 12 weeks.  Both mentorship and literacy are goals of the program.
