Texas Humane Heroes
Texas Humane Heroes is a no kill, private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with adoption centers in Leander and Killeen Texas. Established in 1979, we support communities throughout the entire state of Texas and assist outside our state with natural disaster relocation efforts, such as Hurricane Harvey. We pull dogs and cats into our program from overcrowded shelters that are often forced to euthanize for space. Last year, we pulled 2,804 dogs and cats into Texas Humane Heroes from 42 shelters in 28 counties.
As an individual volunteer, you’ll have the opportunity to help in many capacities. Once you have completed our Volunteer Orientation & Dog Handling Class, you’ll be able to begin signing up for various volunteer shifts. Volunteers must be 16 years of age. Volunteers 12-15 years old can come with a registered volunteer 21+. Unfortunately, we cannot allow volunteers younger than 12.
Volunteering is a great way to help socialize our adoptable animals, learn about animal wellness, and help our staff by assisting with day-to-day care.

This program has been designed to be a win-win opportunity for both Sponsors as well as Organizations.
